To love is to understand

To love
is to understand.
To say no to standards.
Stop telling women
to love their bodies,
to fuck their minds.
Tell’em to understand them instead.

I need these legs
to stand the weight of the world.
Because it’s tough
and I’m thick and strong
for my purpose.
I need this chest
to hold a sometimes heavy
sometimes light heart.
Chest full of fireflies
which needs sparkling eyes
not to burn itself,

honey.
I need this 6’9 foot to breathe.
To remember how big I am
every single second
society tries to tell me to stay tiny.
I need this body.

I need this tummy.
This island covering
my belly button
this security belt
to protect my bones.
Fuck your muffin tops.
Fuck your thigh gaps
and your paper sheets
covering your waist.
There’s this poem written
in the reverse; hidden.
Because only viruses go viral.

Trust me,
I need this face.
I need this eye bags
to carry my few hours of sleep,
Wondering how could I help myself
to change my own perception
of my wounds.

How could I tell myself hey:
this is your body.
It’s not a temple,
it is not sacred,
you need no one to pray for it,
or say instead hey:
this is your weapon.
You need those legs to run further,
you need that huge chest to be filled
you boobs are so small because your heart is too big
or your tiny eyes can see closer.

So I can just come home and say
hey,
I love this hands
because they can write change
and scream love.
And touch deeply over distance.
I love this hands
because they create metaphors,

and metaphors are healing.

Amar
es entender.
Es decir no a las convenciones.
Dejad de decirle a las mujeres
que amen sus cuerpos,
que follen sus mentes.
Pídeles que las entiendan.

Necesito estas piernas
para soportar el peso del mundo.
Porque es pesado,
y yo soy grande y fuerte

y a vuestros folios
cubriendo cinturas.
Está este poema
escrito en el reverso,
escondido.

Poder llegar a casa y decir
escucha:
amo estas manos
porque pueden escribir cambio
y gritar amor.
Y tocar profundo en la distancia.
Amo estas manos
porque saben crear metáforas,
y las metáforas curan.
